Primary BranchThe Fey Coterie’s primary branch is Ichor, the medium of life, just as Nyx before them.    Patron Cantrips Fae Path Effect: When moving between two spots that would both obstruct line-of-sight, the caster may instead disappear behind one and appear behind the other without physically traveling through the intervening space. Total distance possible is normal movement + dashing, and it counts against their movement total in that turn. Method: Being unseen. 1 action | No requirement. Seed of ChaosEffect: The caster hexes a target they've previously conversed with, causing them to suffer a mundane but persistent inconvenience of the caster's choosing for no less than a week (more at target's discretion). This curse can deliver things along the likes of: frequent stumbles, missing socks, constantly falling into puddles, hounded by mosquitoes. The curse must represent a mundane inconvenience or light humiliation; true terror or magical effects are beyond the bounds of the spell. Only one hex can be made per day, unless the caster breaks a previous one.Method: A verbally delivered wishing of, or promise of a curse on the target. It need not be explicit, or even serious, but a promise must be made to be kept.1 action | No requirement. Sprite of HandEffect: The caster may exchange items that fit in-hand between their grasp by merely obscuring such; a clasped hand would see the item appear in the other even if there should be no feasible moment for a sleight of hand to permit.Method: Obscuring an item behind a hand.1 action | No requirement.Sprite of Hand (insert effect) Created By: Moony, TheNerdocalypse and Catmerization.Credit To: Chiarophinx for all the work put into Nyx that allowed for those who follow after.

(Pic Credit: Tim Shepherd on ArtStation)The Fey CoterieThe Three There’s a certain buzz in the air. The hum of life, of revelry, and song. The melody doesn’t sound like one you’ve heard before. Or does it? Something…something seems wrong. Something seems discordant. That’s when it all comes back to you. The party never really was for you, it was for the part of you that you’ve just given up. Those who came after Nyx, the ones who respected and followed him. These are three of the Fey that make up the Coterie which most Ichor mages would seek to gain magic from. Mother-Of-Flame-Finders, The Harvest Reaper, and Third-After-Rain, Baron of Puddles: Mother-Of-Flame-Finders is a Fey that belongs to the Court of Low Monsoon, and is a seemingly moth-like creature both cryptic and ever-changing in colour. Known to flutter about at night and oft speaking of ‘seeking the flame’, they are ever seeking those that like-mindedly seek change, no matter the form. They are also known to occasionally be found lurking upon rooftops and treetops, staring down at those below… The Harvest Reaper is a Fey of the Court of High Monsoon, and it is a mysterious thing. Not fond of talking to many, it speaks rarely, and mostly sticks to just observing. It is a fey of both the harvest and the replanting, the growing and the plucking, the end that would turn to a beginning. Those that fall under its retinue would find they may have responsibilities to maintain that way of the world, to protect that section of the natural order. Third-After-Rain, Baron of Puddles is a strange one even for some Fey. He hails from the Court of High Monsoon, and seems to be a strict adherent to the rules of three. Many things fall in thirds with him, and he can often best be bargained with on the third day after rainfall. Be careful of hosting him inside though, he seems to leave puddles and dampen anything walks over or touches. ValuesMuch like Nyx before them, the three main forces behind the Fey Coterie tend to be drawn to radical ideas and impossible odds. However, they all have separate values, separate ways of seeing the world and interpreting it: Mother-of-Flame-Finders - Unlike the other two of the group, Mother-Of-Flame-Finders can be much more predatory, and often enjoys toying with those unlucky enough to encounter it. Their values are perhaps in many ways both simple and complex- they enjoy being entertained, and are drawn towards those who either have- or desire to have, undergone growth and change. The values of the individual mean little to them, aside from the capacity to shift and grow over time- Though it appears to grow quite fond of those with similar speaking habits to its’ own.The Harvest Reaper - A being who values naught much but the fields it tends, the crops it grows to harvest and replant. To value more than yourself is to value the whole, and that is what the Reaper seeks. Do what you will for the greater, not for selfish reasons. Whether you are good or evil matters not, all that matters is you protect the natural cycle of growing, harvesting, and replanting. Third-After-Rain, Baron of Puddles - He tends to seek out entertainment where he can. Impatient and impulsive he’s willing to grant power to those he finds most interesting, those who can give him the entertainment he seeks. The Baron of Puddles is also one Fey that’s particularly adherent to the rule of three, and will often enjoy both deals and games that revolve around thirds.  Views on Other PatronsThe views had on other patrons would be varied from member to member. However, it’s typically good to assume that they hold a similar view Nyx had. Restrictive patronage and an overall lack of whimsy often makes them view the others with some sort of miasma of disdain:  “Woe! Knaves and jesters, the lot of them. Lost betwixt pursuits of power and fool’s errands. Mayhaps there is entertainment to be wrought of them yet…” - Mother-Of-Flame-Finders, whose words were followed by joyous chittering noises. “Who?” - The Harvest Reaper“If you have to ask, I think Xinshi is an old fart, Ciren’na is an upstart, Facet is dull, and that Dreaming One is…ugly.” - Third-After-Rain, Baron of Puddles. Being a Mage Under The Fey CoterieIt will often feel like being a pawn or player in a game when you’re pacted under the Fey Coterie. Much like Nyx before them, their interests can pivot to something worse when one pacted under them tends to become a bore. They do not tend to manage directly and sling quests at their mages; they would rather step in and remind them that they want entertainment. So long as you remember to use your powers in interesting ways, you will thrive under their watchful eye.

Primary Branch The Dreaming One's primary branch is Cursesmithy.   Patron Cantrips Self Delusion Effect: The caster is able to tap into the dream realm and plant a belief or emotion into their own mind. For the next hour, this belief is accepted with complete conviction, whether or not it is blatantly false. For example, the caster may make themselves believe that the sky is green, or that they are happy, or that they are not, in fact, a spy. Even if the caster knows that this delusion is a lie or not representative of their true feelings before casting this spell, they uncritically believe in them for the duration-appearing as wholly convinced and truthful even to arcane analysis. Evidence that contradicts the delusion is rationalized away, but the wording of the delusion should be considered carefully such that it can be interpreted creatively when observable truth rubs up against the fiction. Method: Repeating the delusion before a reflective surface, accepting it as truth. 1 action | No requirement. Slumber Effect: Any Cursesmith can tread the water of the Nocturne with a trance: it takes practice to dive headfirst. The caster works a small enchantment on themselves, allowing them to sleep even in intolerable circumstances: they fall unconscious at a moment's notice, and can wake up at will if not impeded by another spell. The caster has no awareness of surroundings whilst in this dreamless sleep, and is protected from nightmares, intrusions, and anything else that would plague their dreams. Method: Resting peacefully and closing eyes. 2 actions | No requirement. Mind's Eye Effect: An equivalent exchange takes place in the target's mind, like a priceless treasure swapped for a weighted bag of sand. They are filled with eldritch visions in their mind's eye, both confusing and frightening them. In exchange, the caster isolates and learns a single fear of their target-knowing what, but not why. The process is unpleasant for the target, as if icy fingers were prodding through their very brain. The effects can be resisted with a successful HAR: Belief check, while on a mixed success no fear is learned. Method: Maintaining physical contact on someone while closing one's physical eyes to open the eye within. 2 actions | No requirement.

The Dreaming One The Void Dreamer   A woman in a white dress stained red in blood stands in this clearing of snow and tulips. Black untamed hair dangling downwards over a wounded face. A shuddering whisper carried by the sighs of grass, “Do you wish to witness tragedy forever?” She sways, as if a marionette guided by accursed strings, “Or will you wield it?”A being of etheric origin stretches its dark tendrils across the waking realm towards the dream-sea. A presence always just out of reach looming over the memories left beneath the skin of everyday life. The Dreaming One has only recently found her place within our waking realm after the events of “The Sundering.” Now she is more present than ever.   Values Do not run from the memories that haunt your every slumber. Be not a puppet to the nightmares that paralyse you when they surface. Do not compartmentalize the repeated trauma that shapes you. Witness your tragedies.Immerse in that which causes your heart to race so you may reach higher. Embrace that which enrages you to strive greater lengths. Scream and sob over the loss you have experienced, let it fuel you to allow it never again. Wield your tragedies. The short time you spend in this world must be truly lived. Give in to impulse and temptation. Indulge in that which you enjoy and hate to feel alive. Ride emotions like titanic ocean waves. Do all of this, and share a little with me.   Views on Other Patrons The Dreaming One views the other patrons with a keen interest and awe. Talented mages typically have quite interesting stories to tell. That being said, there is one patron The Dreaming One doesn’t get along with very well. The patron Ciren'na has a turbulent relationship with The Dreaming One. Events of The Sundering have left The Dreaming One to view Ciren’na in a mixed but unfavourable light, though she remains an ally of circumstance.   Being a Mage under The Dreaming One Unlike many patrons, The Dreaming One might be the first to act. Somebody experiencing some extremely intense emotion may attract the hungering gaze of the Dreaming One and be offered a pact. That being said, to make a pact is to take on magic for the price of bearing a curse. The Dreaming One sinks her hands into one’s most horrific memories and brightest aspirations, indulging in the emotions associated. Oftentimes, when pacted under The Dreaming One, somebody might trade another pacted’s nightmares. Some nightmares when afflicted with The Dreaming One’s curse are extremely lucid, allowing one to act and shape its path in other directions. The Dreaming One sometimes looms over the pacted in their everyday lives, encouraging white indulgence, temptation, or impulse as a voice in their ear.

This is a list of notable / recurring NPCs that often appear in off-map roleplay taking place in the Valkian Realm. It is maintained by the Worldbuilding team as a whole, though the majority of these NPCs appear in events run by @Reedie . Notable NPCs of Mariza Capital of the Valkian Realm, located in the heart of the Midlands at the mouth of a large estuary. The largest city on the Western Continent, it is home to many a cobbled brick building and impressive manor houses owned by fabulously rich nobility, overlooking homes of more modest means that extend far beyond the city's walls. Imperial Family ❋ King-Emperor Rayan IV The human King-Emperor of the Valkian Realm. A man who loves the battlefield over peaceful court, almost immediately started a new war against The North that resulted in the seizure of Frostpeak. ❋ Crown Prince _______ The as-of-yet unnamed heir to the Valkian Realm. Always described as merely 'the Crown Prince' and rarely seen in public, he is a particular figure of mystery. ❋ Prince Leon The youngest of the King-Emperor's sons, Prince Leon is a romantic, loving the arts and drama and being hopelessly unaware and naive. Was briefly involved with an arcane cult obsessed with shadows before being 'persuaded' to leave. ❋ Princess Tanya A favoured daughter of the King-Emperor, Tanya or 'Tany' to some is a relatively naive woman who is much-loved in Mariza for her habit of sending out flowers to the populace. Recently married to Lord Douglas, giving her the additional title of Lady Douglas. ❋ Lord Douglas (by marriage) Husband of Princess Tanya. Originally from the Duchy of Sanguifleur. ❋ Oni Rivers (bastard) A bastard child of the King-Emperor that he favoured enough to let remain in Mariza. Is an adept journeywoman in the Marizan Artificers Guild. Notable for having two artifice prosthetic legs to replace her own that she lost in an accident. Her status as a bastard is an open secret, making her relatively unpopular in most noble circles.   The Imperial Court ❋ 'Countess' Ciren'na The well-known Arsa Sidhe Ether Patron serves as the Court Mage to the King-Emperor, though it is an open secret that her loyalties to Rayan are dubious at best. Is often given the courtesy title of 'Countess', though she holds no true title, other than her claimed 'Countess of the Ether'. ❋ Chamberlain Monviviant An overly fussy man with ornate robes, Monviviant is the latest in a long line of his family serving as Chamberlains of the Imperial Palace, running day to day affairs and organizing events. Despite what his name suggests, he has no ties to Sangifleur in the slightest.   The Ravens ❋ Aria A highly mutated human, Aria is the leader of one chapter of the assassins guild known as the 'Ravens', responsible for the death of the Spire's councilwoman Leigh Hounsley before forming an unsteady alliance with the townsfolk of the Spire during the Honourless Campaign. Has since had some of her mutations reversed and has returned to her work in Mariza, doing the dirty work of nobles. ❋ Odessa A highly skilled Arsa Sidhe Ether mage and blind since birth, Odessa is Aria's elder in age but loyal to her to the death, having sworn an oath in blood. Often spies on groups through the projection of a Raven or Crow familiar, and is generally responsible for portal'ing the Ravens to and fro.   Miscellaneous ❋ Paulson Paldron Master of the Marizan Artificer's Guild. Rose to prominence when creating a prototype of a carriage drawn by an artifice horse. Has mostly died down in terms of creativity, but wears a rather opulant outfit with various gears and lenses tucked into pockets all over. ❋ Gregort Arctus The former Envoy to the Spire, Gregort was a rather obnoxious man who had a particular dislike for a bard native to the town. Was arrested on the orders of Duchess Silverbloom for theft and fraud, taking money from several commonfolk. His continued imprisonment stoked some tensions between the Imperial Court and the Duchy of Rulan. ❋ Lord Maximilian Beckett The current Envoy to the Spire, Maximilian is from Mariza and previously served as a bureaucrat in Frostpeak following its capture by the Valkians. Is known for a silver tongue and not being afraid to stab anyone in the back to see his ends through. If you get him to give his word, it is usually trustworthy. Usually.   Notable NPCs of Katrinsa Capital of the Duchy of Rulan, the lesser state of the Valkian Realm that borders the Southern Reach. Katrinsa was once an up-and-coming city, famed for its masons that maintained The Wall and the soldiers it produced to guard the empire's borders. Since the disappearance of the Aedall and the loss of prestige of the Duchy, Katrinsa is a city of what once was; cracks appear in stone-work, and the people don't quite have the same joy and life to them that they used to. Ducal Court ❋ Duchess Dahlia Silverbloom A ball of fire in the Valkian Realm, Duchess Silverbloom is not one to take Rulan's slide into irrelevancy lightly. She seeks to claim fame for her family once more, even if it puts her at odds with the King-Emperor. A relatively tall woman, she has a large lock of white down the middle of her otherwise black hair, and often wears more knightly attire than 'ladylike' attire, inspiring a fashion trend of form-fitting clothing across the Duchy for women. Usually seen with a large, ornate sabre on her hip that she has used to execute traitors, personally. ❋ Lady Ma'ran An Arsa Sidhe Ether Mage pacted under Ciren'na, Ma'ran is the court mage to Duchess Dahlia Silverbloom, attaining the position shortly after her ascension to the Dukedom. Is usually seen wearing a flower crown of black roses around her hair. Seems to be a bit envious of the attention the Southern Reach gets by most mages, including her patron.   Knights/Soldiers of the Duchy ❋ Lord Captain Pierre Captain of the small retinue from the Duchy that was sent to make camp near the Spire Town. Helped in the attack on the Garden of the Aedall in the Honourless Campaign. Is famed for a rather large mustache. ❋ Ser Kristoph A famed knight of the Duchy, Ser Kristoph is often sent with envoys to other regions, whether inside or out of the Valkian Realm. His trips to Mariza often result in him getting caught between loyalties to Duchess Silverbloom and the King-Emperor. Is an above-average dancer. ❋ Dame Aylith (deceased) A former second-in-command to Lord Captain Pierre, Dame Aylith was murdered in the middle of the night outside the Spire by an unknown assassin. The perpetrator of her death is still uncertain, but it is suspected her killers have ties to Mariza.
